From humble beginnings in Lower Hutt in 1999, All Secure Self Storage has grown into one of New Zealand’s leading self-storage providers, with secure facilities across the country. Founded by Keith Edwards and Peter James, we have been helping Kiwis protect what matters most for more than 25 years—delivering innovative storage solutions, exceptional customer service, and industry-leading security technology.
Our journey started when Keith and Peter—each inspired in different ways—recognised the growing demand for safe, flexible storage options in New Zealand. While on holiday in Australia, Keith saw the self-storage opportunity first-hand, while Peter discovered the concept in Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Acting quickly, they purchased land in Lower Hutt and built their very first storage facility, laying the foundation for a business that would become trusted nationwide.
At one of the earliest self-storage conferences in Australia, Keith forged relationships that remain part of our DNA today: software partner StorMan, trusted builder Storco, and—over a beer at the bar—Sam Kennard of Kennards Self Storage, who tore up Keith’s original site plans and sketched out a bold new vision. That moment became a turning point, setting All Secure on a path of innovation, resilience, and growth.

Our History
2003
All Secure Self Storage continued its expansion with the opening of a new facility in Christchurch on Carmen Road, marking a significant milestone as the first facility built by Storco. This development reflects All Secure’s commitment to high-quality design and construction, providing customers with secure and convenient storage solutions in one of Christchurch’s busiest areas.
2008
All Secure Self Storage expanded its presence on the Kapiti Coast with the opening of a new facility on Epiha Street, conveniently located next door to a Big Save store. This site marks a significant milestone as All Secure’s first two-story, all-weather facility, featuring a drive-through design for easy, sheltered access. This innovative feature allows customers to load and unload their belongings in comfort, no matter the weather, providing enhanced convenience and accessibility for both personal and business needs.
2009
All Secure Self Storage received significant recognition at the SSAA Awards, with the Kapiti facility winning the SSAA Award for Best Regional Facility in Australasia. This prestigious honor underscores the high standards of service and facility management upheld by All Secure. The company was also proud to be named a Finalist for the Innovation Award, further highlighting its commitment to embracing new ideas and technologies that improve the customer experience.
In its ongoing expansion, All Secure acquired Green Umbrella Storage on Galway Street, Onehunga, Auckland. This acquisition enhances All Secure’s presence in the Auckland region, adding a conveniently located self storage facility that meets the growing demand for secure storage solutions in the area.
2011
All Secure Self Storage was proud to be honored with the SSAA Innovation Award for its paperless signup system, a groundbreaking initiative that enhances the customer experience by offering a seamless, contactless registration process. This innovation reflects the company’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve convenience and efficiency for its customers.
Additionally, the Christchurch branch manager was recognized as SSAA Manager of the Year, an accolade that highlights the outstanding leadership and operational excellence demonstrated at the Christchurch location. These awards underscore All Secure’s dedication to continuous improvement and high-quality service across its nationwide network.
2012
All Secure Self Storage continued its expansion with the opening of a new facility on Tidal Road in Mangere, Auckland. This marks the company’s second location in the Auckland region, further strengthening its presence in New Zealand’s largest city. The new facility offers secure, accessible storage solutions to meet the growing demand in the area, providing both personal and business customers with high-quality self storage options.
2014
All Secure Self Storage expanded its network to Taupō with the acquisition of Alcatraz Self Storage on Tauhara Road, further solidifying its presence in the central North Island. This acquisition enhances All Secure’s ability to provide secure, convenient storage solutions to the Taupō community and surrounding areas.
In addition to its growth, All Secure’s commitment to exceptional service was recognized when the Christchurch branch manager was named a finalist for the SSAA Manager of the Year award. This recognition highlights the company’s dedication to maintaining high standards of service and operational excellence across its nationwide network.

All Secure Self Storage further expanded its network with the acquisition of Kennards Self Storage on Wilson Street in Whanganui. This strategic move strengthens All Secure’s presence in the lower North Island, providing more secure, accessible storage solutions to the local community and further establishing the brand as a trusted name in self storage across New Zealand.
2016
All Secure Self Storage introduced the Moving Mate at several branches, including Christchurch, Lower Hutt, Kapiti, and Auckland. This convenient service provides customers with an easy and affordable way to move their belongings into storage, offering a practical solution for those needing assistance with transportation. The introduction of the Moving Mate reflects All Secure’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience and making the self-storage process as seamless and stress-free as possible.
2017
All Secure Self Storage continued to expand its network with the opening of a new facility in Napier. This site adds to the company’s growing presence in the Hawke’s Bay region, offering secure, accessible storage solutions to both local residents and businesses. The new facility, strategically positioned opposite a Big Save store, also marks All Secure’s first mixed-use asset, combining high-quality self storage with complementary commercial spaces. This development reflects All Secure’s vision of creating versatile and convenient spaces for both personal and business needs, with a unique offering of indoor parking for boats, catering to the growing demand for secure storage of recreational vehicles.
2018
In recognition of its excellence in service and operations, All Secure was named a finalist in the Self Storage Association of Australasia (SSAA) Awards, across multiple categories: Community Engagement, Regional Facility of the Year, and Manager of the Year.
As part of its ongoing expansion, All Secure opened a brand-new facility in Palmerston North, marking the company’s second location in the Manawatū region. This site also represents a mixed-use asset, combining high-quality self storage with complementary commercial spaces. This strategic development further strengthens All Secure’s presence in the lower North Island, delivering secure, accessible storage solutions to the local community while supporting business growth in the area.
2019
All Secure Self Storage reached several important milestones as part of its continued investment in infrastructure and growth. The company completed Stage 2 of its Palmerston North facility, expanding capacity to meet increasing local demand for secure and convenient storage options.
At the same time, All Secure redeveloped and expanded its Head Office, located at the Auckland Airport branch. This upgraded headquarters supports the growing national operations team and reflects the company’s long-term commitment to innovation and service excellence.
A major highlight during this period was All Secure celebrating 20 years in business — a significant achievement that underscores its position as one of New Zealand’s most trusted and established independently owned self storage providers.
2020
All Secure Self Storage continued to strengthen its nationwide network with two major facility openings. In Taupō, the company launched its second branch, located in the Stag Park Hillside area. This site is more than just a storage facility—it’s a multi-use development that also includes accommodation, a diner, and a truck stop, offering added convenience for travellers and locals alike.
In Auckland, All Secure opened its third branch in the city, strategically positioned at Sylvia Park on the iconic Tip Top corner along State Highway 1. This high-profile location enhances accessibility and visibility in one of New Zealand’s busiest urban corridors.
2021
In 2021, All Secure expanded their footprint in Hawke’s Bay with the opening of their second location in the region — a premium self storage facility developed at the former Bunnings Trade Centre site in the heart of Hastings CBD.
That same year, All Secure Group made its first strategic acquisition in the Bay of Plenty. This property is set to be transformed into a modern mixed-use development, combining high-quality retail space with state-of-the-art self storage solutions in 2027.
2023
In 2023, All Secure Self Storage expanded its national footprint with the addition of two premium mixed-use assets. The first was in Timaru, marking the company’s second location in the South Island. The second was the acquisition of a strategic site in Three Kings, now All Secure’s fourth location in Auckland.
Both properties are being developed as high-quality mixed-use assets, combining state-of-the-art self storage facilities with complementary commercial or retail spaces. These developments reflect All Secure’s continued commitment to delivering innovative, secure, and convenient storage solutions across New Zealand.
2024
In 2024, All Secure Self Storage proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary in business, marking a quarter-century of growth, innovation, and commitment to providing secure and accessible storage solutions across New Zealand.
As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance customer experience, the company opened a new call centre, extending customer support hours to better serve its nationwide clientele. In addition, All Secure introduced Virtual Assistant kiosks—video-enabled customer support kiosks installed at the Auckland and South Island branches. This cutting-edge technology provides instant, face-to-face assistance and will be rolled out to all branches by 2025, further improving the customer experience.
2024 also saw the acquisition of Self Storage Gisborne, adding a three-site mixed-use asset portfolio to All Secure’s growing network. This acquisition combines self-storage with commercial spaces, offering versatile and convenient solutions for both personal and business needs.
In 2025, All Secure Self Storage has taken another leap forward with the opening of our brand-new Three Kings facility in Auckland, delivering modern, secure, and digitally enabled storage solutions to one of the city’s fastest-growing communities. This expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to providing convenient options for households, businesses, and tradies across New Zealand.
We’ve also completed the acquisition of Safeguard Management, New Zealand’s leading third-party self-storage management platform, adding 30+ managed sites to our portfolio and extending our reach to more than 50 facilities nationwide. At the same time, we’ve launched our solar power and green strategy rollout, aiming to power 75% of our facilities with solar and battery backup by 2026—reducing emissions, strengthening resilience, and ensuring All Secure remains an industry leader in sustainable self-storage solutions.
